![]() LoRaWAN ® is a MAC (media access control) layer protocol built on top of LoRa ® modulation. Moreover, it allows saving operator fees. It can be deployed both on public and private networks since it operates on license-free subgigahertz bands. It is used also for indoor application or for water-meter counters in cities. However, thanks to the deep indoor penetration, for example, to cover easily multifloor buildings. Typical use cases are for examples smart farms to measure soil moisture in rural areas. Moreover, it enables long-life battery-operated sensors and actuators (they can last up to 10 years on a single coin cell battery). Hence, it is suitable for transmitting small-size payloads such as sensor data. LoRaWAN ® is a type of wireless telecommunication network designed to allow long-range communication (kilometers) at a very-low bit rate. It particularly focuses on the LoRaWAN ® end device. This section provides a general overview of LoRaWAN ®. LoRa Alliance ®, is a nonprofit association that defines and promotes the LoRaWAN ®. 5 STM32CubeWL software application notes and user manualsġ LoRaWAN ® overview 1.1 what is LoRaWAN ®.4.2 STM32WL MOOC (massive online courses).3 Getting started with STM32WL Series and LoRaWAN ®. ![]() It supports a wide choice of integrated development environments including IAR Embedded Workbench®, MDK-ARM, and STM32CubeIDE. The STMicroelectronics board is supplied with the comprehensive STM32WL software library and various packaged software examples available with the STM32CubeWL MCU package. ![]() This Nucleo board does not require a discrete probe as it includes an integrated STLINK-V3E debugger and programmer. The NUCLEO-WL55JC board features Arduino® Uno V3 connectivity support and ST morpho headers to provide an easy means of expanding the functionality of the STM32WL Nucleo open development platform with a wide choice of specialized shields. Application code runs on the Cortex-M4 core. The SoC’s Cortex-M0+ core performs various security services including secure firmware updating, secure firmware installation and management of secure keys. Featuring a similar hardware specification, the STM32WL54 SoC supports (G)FSK, (G)MSK and BPSK modulation and not the LoRa protocol.īy integrating a full-featured MCU based on dual Arm® Cortex®-M4 and Cortex-M0+ cores and a sub-1GHz radio into a single chip, ST enables developers of connected industrial and IoT applications to simplify their board design and assembly process, and to reduce bill-of-materials costs. The STM32WL55 implements LoRa® radio communications, as well as supporting the (G)FSK, (G)MSK and BPSK long-range radio modulation schemes. The STM32WL55 is a System-on-Chip (SoC) which combines a dual-core MCU with a sub-1GHz radio to provide Low-Power Wide-Area Networking (LPWAN) capability. This Nucleo board is also suitable for the development of applications which are intended to be based on the STM32WLE5/E4 MCUs. STMicroelectronics has introduced the NUCLEO-WL55JC board, which provides a time-saving platform for the development of connected industrial and IoT applications based on the STM32WL55/54 series of wireless microcontrollers.
